The Lakes
The wife and I are getting a few days away without child and dog. Thought we would go to the Lakes, so if any of you wise old owls could recommend the best driving roads or anything else to keep us amused I would be most appreciative.
I would suggest a circular drive to the west of Keswick taking in Whinlatter Pass, Buttermere and Crummock Water, the over Honister Pass stopping off at the top at Honister Pass Slate Mine.
Another route would be from Ambleside to Elterwater, Wrynose Pass, Hardknott Pass, then depending what the weather is doing you can go south and cross Windermere on the ferry and back to Ambleside.
If you get the chance there's a motor museum near the bottom of Windermere which is 'quaint' but worth a visit.
Whatever you do, don't think 'track-day' but if the weather and the traffic are in your favour you're in for a treat.
Enjoy

The A591 South from Keswick to A592/ Kirkstone pass and up to Ullswater is a good circular with a stop at the Kirkstone Pass inn.
