Default Lambda failed on my 2003 AP1

Hi all, just returning to the S2K fold after a couple of years without a “toy”. Acquired a very nice low mileage 2003 AP1 with brand new MoT including perfect emissions, looking forward to the 120 mile drive home avoiding motorways. Lots of fun but nothing excessive, until 90 miles when the engine light came on (not flashing). Sounded fine, no misfires etc but kept speed/revs low and crawled home.

My cheapo OBD2 shows a P0131 fault but not much more info, which I believe if the pre-cat lambda sensor. I’m looking for the OEM part number which I think could be 36531-PCX-014, but I’ve also seen 36531-PCX-004 referenced as the primary sensor. Can anyone shed some light?

Prices vary hugely from sub £50 to over £400. So advice on reliable equivalents to OEM would be great. Want it fixed so I can use the beast!

Thanks.

Before throwing parts at the symptoms run thru the trouble shooting pages in the Service Manual. (Just search for the code.) See if any other codes are present.

-004 was replaced by -014 but both parts show discontinued on the US parts sites... OEM prices are in excess of US$300. Ebay aftermarket parts about US$40.

Thanks Chuck. No other codes present and I haven’t had time to check the obvious like a broken wire. Hoping to get the car onto a lift today. That manual is an amazing resource.

Pretty sure the Denso p/n is Denso 234-4124 for the pre-cat on non-DBW years (up to 2006)

I have 2 denso sensors from RockAuto that are now surplus to requirements - they are in the FS section. (Bought for an MY00)

Hi, I’ve looked in FS but can’t find those sensors. Can you send me a link please?

Hi nomadics2k - now found your FS post but system is refusing to let me reply to you. No price given for the two sensors. I only need the 4124 at the moment but may take the other just in case if price is right.

DM me if there’s a way from this site, or email me on removed

Thanks.

Mike,

You can't send direct messages for a couple of weeks as a new (non-paying) member, hence the difficulties.

I've removed your email from the post for your own potential privacy but I've sent it to nomadic so he can contact you.

Thanks UK Moderator. I’ve paid my dues to S2KUK - is there an extra fee for S2KI? Appreciate you relaying my reply too.
