Default Lift off oversteer

Hey all!

just got my S2000 on a 2000 plate and loving it!

only problem I have is if I even think of lifting off while cornering ( even a tiny amount at low speed ) the back end twitches and the steering angle increases like mad.
If I accelerate again it feels like it's trying to push wide.

I'm comming from a Lotus Elise so I know they will feel different but even people following me say they can see it twitching.

Any ideas??

Have you had the geometry checked?

That would be my first port of call.

Secondly, are you on the original 16" alloys and what tyres do you have on the rear?

There is an amount of passive rear steering built in that can have this effect, but its not something that would cause the steering angle to 'increase like mad'.

Sounds abnormal, especially at low speed.

Could be bad alignment?

Get the Geo checked?
Check the pressure in the wheels?

Cheers for the quick replies guys!

It's running standard 16" on Toyo Proxies with standard suspension.
I'm thinking of upgrading to coilovers and uprated anti-roll bars.

But just wanted to check it wasn't something serious

Check the tyres would be my first port of call.....my Wanli's (shock, horror) on the back of mine are horendous in the wet, and leathal in the damp.

They came with the car, so will be replaced once i've painted my spare set of wheels.
Bad tyres make such a difference its unreal!

And of course, maybe time to get the geo checked, which really should be my next task after replacing the tyres.

p.s., you replied before i posted.....the toyo's are pretty good though arnt they?

It's not sliding the rear it feels more like the suspension dipping and shifting.

Also really easy to make the back end slide wide on islands ( liking that though )

It might be serious. What you describe is not normal behaviour for the car.

Hence checking the geo. It will show if something is out, or worse detached, and you'll also find out if you've got any seized bushes.

The S2k is very sensitive to geo.

I'll have to get the geo done asap.

Anyone know a good place to go near Birmingham area?
