Default Looking to get back in an S

Hey Guys,

After a 10 year hiatus, I’m looking to get back in an S. I reluctantly sold mine back in 2014 to fund our first house purchase and quite frankly cannot believe where values have gone since!! I sold it for such a bargain

Anyway, despite having some much more powerful cars since, it’s the S2000 that I look back on and miss the most. It’s still pound for pound the most fun I’ve had in a car.

I do remember that even back in 2014 engine failures, whilst uncommon would be a total nightmare as they can’t be rebuilt, used engines would need to sourced and presumably suitable donors are becoming less readily available. Some of the used engines on eBay come with an eye watering price tag…

With the best will in the world, these cars are now 20 years old. So before I jump back in I wanted to get a feel for what options are available these days should the worst happen…

thanks!

I was dailying an 06 until the £710 tax landed. Goodbye, and sold it a couple of weeks ago. I was reluctant at first... Pre- March 06, it's the lower tax in the high £300's (£395 or thereabouts).
No issues with mine on 114k - many in the States are +200k miles no issues but depends on its life. Some throw bearings at 150-200k, probably from track work in the past or current and usually the later models are the most reliable in terms of less oil starvation at the corners , and just in general they consume less oil.
Pricing ? 100k miler 05 will be 10k at a start if you're lucky - and many have bladdered suspension now with seized bushings, tired exhausts and weeping oil seals by the VTEC solenoid. Knacked air con condenser, leaking roofs. Etc etc I could go on. But all fixable and part of the love for it. Rust rust rust!! Where do we start
Still a decent chariot to daily or weekends - nowt else like it to be honest. But get a very good history file for confidence - remember, many, many of these have seen hedges despite what some say and have unrecorded accidents. To be expected - so tread careful. Budget for 15k, you usually can't up wrong if you have a keen eye - then it's up to you whether you want a newer or older pre 04.. good luck.
