Lowering
Hi,
Firstly would like to apologize if this topic has already came up but i have searched and cant find anything. I have a 2003 AP1 and looking to lower it either on coilovers or just some springs, I would like to close the gap in wheel arches just so it sits little higher than the wheels so not slammed or anything too crazy. My only concern is the ground clearance at the front, i have a front lip fitted and i am worried if i lower say 2 inchs? I will not be able to get over anything (i.e speed humps) just wondering if anyone has struggled with this? Also i know this might be in the wrong section but as i am from the UK would like some UK answers not sure what the road are like everywhere else
Thanks Dan

2 inches is quite a lot, thats 50mm, you will probably have trouble with speed bumps and the underside also will scrape.
35mm and you will be ok with most things. I am around 30-35 lower now and I dont have a problem, if I go lower I have issues so I don't bother. I have a factory lip fitted by the way.

Yep, and as mentioned factor in getting anti bump steer kits. Eibach springs are a good starting point. Click my user name to the left of this post, that profile pic was on eibach springs and is perfect height
I've just fitted Eibach springs, but decided not to go for the anti bump steer kit at this point after reading lots of feedback on here. Car is taxed as of tomorrow so will soon know if it's required or not. Alignment not booked until the middle of March.
Anti Bump Steer kits are not cheap, just as expensive as the springs

How are you finding the Eibach springs on standard shocks? I keep reading the bump kit isn't needed with these as its only a small drop?
Id like to keep standard shocks with slightly tighter springs and a slight drop so these look good. Let us know how you get on with them

Have been considering this myself and interested to hear a bit more information from people who have been running this setup.

Hard to give an initial impression as the drive to work isn't exactly flat out, however other than the speed bump in the car park I wouldn't say the car feels any harsher, but seems to corner flatter. Can't comment on bump steer yet, will have it out in the country at the weekend, although to be honest I'm reluctant to push on with it being cold and I've not had the alignment done yet.

Mine is lowered on eibach springs and is much better than stock, feels the same as stock (as the springs are progressive) and is a much cheaper option.
Coilovers is definitely doing it properly, but eibach springs are a great cheaper improvement if you don't want to slam it, but have a lowered look at a very good price. Plus there aren't other mods to do, like bumpsteer and driveshaft spacers (i think?).

I fitted EIbachs with standard shocks last week. I'd say they're possibly still settling out as I have 1 finger gap up front and 1.75 in the rear.
Going to give it a few more days before I get realigned, however initial impressions are that the car seems to corner far flatter and the ride isn't too much harsher than OEM.
The drop itself is modest however I feel the wheels now fill the arches without compromising my ability to go over speed bumps (although my front lip still scrapes a couple around town).
Can't wait to get the alignment done, even without it I still feel this is a good set up for me. If I did a lot of track days I might be tempted to plump for coilovers, but for me and my style of driving, springs will suffice!
