LS1 S2000 in the UK
It been good reading this thread and seeing something different been done.
But the S2000 is all about the engine as others have said, take that away and I wouldn't want one anymore. It would be just a better looking MX5.
If I was stood at the side of the road and heard the sound of that LS1 I'd look around for a car that suited that sound. Not a proxy S2000......
It's like a chick with a dick, some may like it and say it good to try something new, but it's just not for me

The thing is, I knew what you were getting at saying that even though I knew you knew it isn't a pushrod engine.
It's still going on my quote list though
I guess you have a wealth of experience with LSx converted s2000s so you would know what suits what the best.
Which bit is it that doesn't suit it? The power? Drivability? Or just the slightly extra weight you have to carry? Less than the weight of a passenger.
What's with you getting all high and mighty?! I was going to post something here, but i'll assume that you have misread one of my posts for saying that what you are doing is a waste of time (which I didn't say), and not you trying to be the big man
Nope, I have no experience in putting V8s into an S2000. Like I have quite clearly said, not my bag and I like the F20C as I think it suits the car.
In the same way, I think double wishbone suspension suits the car, but someone out there may be planning a solid rear axle on leaf springs. Again, all power to them
If it's any consolation to you, I think that Lotus are idiots for sticking a V6 in an Elise and making it weigh nigh on 1100kg.
Anyway, the fact that it's a lazy crossplane pushrod V8 and not a screaming modern flatplane four cylinder is why I think the F20C suits the car better than the GM V8.
75kg is a fair bit of weight and I imagine that weight will rise as you make adjustments to ensure reliabilty (Cooling and engine mounts/front subframe are the most obvious ones).
As ge2 has said, it'll not really be noticeable on the road, but if you sling 75 kg over the nose, you'll certianly notice it on the track. Admittedly, you'll be able to engineer a lot of it out with new spring/damper/ARB setups, but custom damper valving will cost a bit.
Again, well done to you for giving it a go. I'm always one for trying something out.
Now who's up for a FWD S2000???

I'm just saying it doesn't suit the car in the same way that the Queen wouldn't suit assless chaps.

I think it's all down to how you use the car and how you want to use the car.
If it's a track weapon you're after I'd agree that an F20c is great. High revving screamer ideally suited to those conditions.
Personally I'm using mine as my DD. I spend a lot of the time with the top down enjoying the odd blast. Having to change down 2 or 3 gears to overtake something can be a bit of a ballache to be honest.
The thought of buckets of torque and that noise suits what I want the car for.
A better looking MX5? Is that a bad thing?
I don't want a TVR as they wouldn't work as a DD. I like the looks of the S2000 and with a V8, for what I use the car for, it'd be perfect.
Ultra Nexus bought the S2000 for the engine, I didn't. We each make our own choices.
Some people prefer the facelift S2000, some prefer the early ones (The clever people
)
Some people buy the S2000 and never take the hardtop off. To me that seems bizzare as I bought it because it was a RWD soft top but each to their own.
In an ideal world, I'd have the body of an Opel GT on an S2000 chassis with an LS3 motor in it. Sacrilege? Probably. Do I care? No.
Oh and I'd have an S2000 v8 too.

I think you'd better trade the Sportsbike in for a Goldwing.....
The older I get, the more attractive 'wings get.
Same principle applied to my bikes though. A nutty tuned 2 stroke on track, a big lazy v-twin Mille on the road.
Doing 30k miles a year in the S2k, I don't really want to be clogging it down through the box to "make progress" when an overtaking opportunity arises. Sure, on empty roads it's great as it is but I don't get empty roads that often.

Nope - not unless something this good comes around at about the cost of transferring a V8 into this. It's open topped, RWD, got a hard top, winter tyres blah blah and i've no wife or kids - problem solved unless I stuff it into something or something crashes into me.
