Default Lucky Escape

Driving between offices just after lunch, I'd not long set off, and in Leeds, it's just near Crown point. A van had been an idiot changing lanes in front of me, first to block me, then seconds later swerces back again whilst turning right at some traffic lights. The road is a 4 lane one way at this point, so I put my foot down to put a bit of distance. Speed limit is 30 and I use second gear after VTECing in first. Mist gone, I back right off and then see a police car coming up behind me lights on.

He pulls me over, waves me back in the car, and in a stern tone (I'm thinking the worst) says "Thats impressive accelleration, very impressive acceleration."

He lectures me, do you know that's license losing speeds etc, I'm gutted, thinking the worst, being very apologetic, not trying to blag my way out of it. Then just says "just think about that, and be more careful. Now on your way. I'm stunned.

I'm assuming nothing's going to come in the post? He didn't take down details or anything.

A moments stupidity.

Yep, don't let the dickheads make you modify your driving. The minute you do is the minute a plod is within sight. These c**ts always get off scot free - it's only the decent folk who are punished.

God forbid you should try and report him, unless you have 15 witnesses and he killed someone they ain't gonna give a f**k. Sounds like this copper was a good one though.

He actually said that it was fair enough getting past the van, but then I should have just pulled in. Which is true. It's the heat that made me do it

Probably not a traffic cop?

A few years ago I had a similar thing happen...... 40mph limit on the North Circular, raining and late at night with nobody else on the road appart from me (and the copper), I went round the Hanger Lane gyratory rather quickly and proceeded off up the A406 at a rate of knots....... several hundred yards down the road I saw the blue lights in the distance behind me and slowed to the limit but it was me he was after

Luckily the chap just wanted to see what the car was (Suzuki Cappuccino) and asked to look at the engine, asked about performance etc. to which I was very careful to point out that its limited to 82mph (actually closer to 85mph but didn't wish to push that point)...... he laughed and said "Are you sure? I'd have sworn that you were doing close to 90mph by the time I'd turned my light on!"...... even though he had been nice about the whole thing I was still convinced I was for the high jump (having been doing 80+ in a 40) so was gob smacked when he told me to go on my way but to be careful!

Not a fan of the Capuccino but I absolutely love the little Copen. I'm hoping the mrs will have one as her first car. They look and sound great. Not sure I could actually bear driving it tho.
