The term is used by plod to describe a burglary where the sole purpose is to steal the car.

The keys are found, on the kitchen work surface, the hall table or on a rack signed keys.

This used to be the exclusive privilage of WSX, EVO or similar owners. whilst asleep the baddies would break into your home, nick the keys, have the car away and do a smash and grab. For younger viewers read "ram raid"

You would never get the car back DNA traceable !! It would be torched.

This game has changed, most cars are in play. In the evening when you are in with the missus and kids they break into your house having seen the car on the drive., They bring several mates with them. Choice - Have your head caved in by 6 hooligans with as many baseballs bats or hand over the keys -- Mmmm What should I do - smart money says hand over the keys and phone the police when safe to do so - Result - never see the car again. Difficulties with insurance. Has it gone to Cyprus or Japan. Anybody have any advice re thsi quandry.

Smart Alternative. Fit a TRACKER. You could finish your glass of wine in the back garden and call the police before they have time to hit the ferries (living in the mids means at least 2 hours for me)

 

I don't know about other parts of the Country but this is getting more common in the West Mids, especially in the areas where people have nice cars. Is it worth using a disc lock or something more visible than just the alarm/imobiliser?

TBH i've not heard of this at all and if you are that concerned raise it with your local police. Since my village got targeted for the night breaks they're are more nipple heads knocking around than ever.

You could also get one of those alarms that switches off the cars engine when it is 300 yards down the road (anti car jacking or something)

Steering lock isnt going to do much. They'll just ask you for the key for that along with the engine keys.
