Mazda RX8 vs S2000

I don't think a standard RX8 will trouble an S2000, especially one that hasn't been run in yet. The same cannot be said of the Mazdaspeed version though. I saw a link to a video of this somewhere. Will dig it out. The standard RX8 could not keep up with the S2000 but the Mazdaspeed version drove right past.
I'll be looking at an RX8 only because I need the rear seats and like the look of the car. Otherwise the S2000 is for me a better looking and quicker car with the advantage of letting the sun right in but my need to take kiddies in the car messes all this up.

Its cleverness appeals intellectually, its character appeals hooliganistically.
Mind you, after the test drive so does that NSX in Brayleys, but I had to just say no to it today.
Theres a 'Best Motoring' Vid from Japan with a RX8 vs S2000 is that the one your talking about.
I think there was an earlier video which showed a standard RX8 not keeping up with the S2000.
The second video was of a Mazdaspeed RX8 v S2000. It was marginally faster than the S2000.
Bottom line is track performance appears to be pretty similar for the high power & S2000. Power delivery is different though with no big delta in the mid rev band. All this gleamed from comments here and on the RX8 forums. Yet to drive one myself though.
Interestingly, I'm probably going to consider the low power RX8, partly because I rarely get to use the full performance of the S2000 and partly because I think I've got track days / high speeds out of my system now. But once I've driven them both I'd let you know which I prefer and why.
If you are interested in the 8 then go take a look at our sister site RX8 World where it is currently a bit quiet,
or the UK forum of the RX8Club
where there is quite a bit going on.
My car now has 12,000 miles and I have added an additional 5 litres of oil during this period. I have just bought a new 4 litre bottle of Shell Helix Ultra and I am sure it will rattle through that in the next 10k.
My engines thirst seems to be continuing at the same rate and is showing no signs of slowing down
Thank god I can get the oil on my fuel card. But it is a REAL hassle to have to remember to check every week
