Microswitch thinghy what does it do?

Default Microswitch thinghy what does it do?

Been reading some confusing things about it. Its the one behind the drivers seat near where the hardtop fits into. (too bloody near actually as I have snapped it off)

I have read that its for the internal alarm system and the electrics for the hardtop. Needs to be pushed in for the electrics to work!!! which 1?

as I have broken it off and my electrics on the hardtop dont work, is this correct??

The hard top when on uses the micro switch to stop the soft top moving.

So something else it is then!!!

but dont the brackets at the rear of the hardtop stop that?

They do but the switch cuts the power to the electric motors that move the soft top and power the rear demister.

So without it I cant power the rear demister!! Boolocks anyone got a spare one!!

This sounds like the cut-off switch for the interior alarm motion sensors. The alarm system is after market, and I very much doubt that it's wired in to the hard top electronics. I dismantled mine & pushed it through the panel.

I might be wrong however.

Surely you can test this by manually shorting or leaving open the two wires to this switch ?

It's nothing to do with the de-mister. That is all on a loom behind the seat panels

I took mine back to the dealer with a query about the alarm and was told there was a switch which was activated when the roof was down which deactivated the interior alarm (so it didn't go off it a leaf fell in it or something). Perhaps its that? I never asked where it was......

Dont think that is strictly true, to de-activate the interior alarm you press the activate button twice, lights flash 4 times on 1st press, 3 times on second.

No, it automatically deactivates when the roof is down apparently, just in case random objects end up inside the car . I know about the pressing twice to deactivate when the roof is up.
