Default MOT

Hi everyone,

My S went for MOT tonight and failed....due to the fact the headlight washers do not work. Pretty peeved off but hey, was told the car was in excellent condition otherwise, which I knew it was but need to get these damn things working.

As far as I know from the history, someone previous had blanked the headlight washers, then at a later date another owner decided they liked the look of the washers so put them back on the car but never made them work.

Couple of questions, is there a separate motor for the windscreen and headlight washers? I have the button in the car ok for the headlamps but when I press it I don't hear a motor trying or anything, so am wondering if it is there or maybe a fuse is gone I guess I will find out soon.

Other question, is all I need the washers themselves, a working motor or fuse(depending on there being 1 or 2 motors) some tubing linked to the washers and the washers themselves?

Anything else?

Thanks

The washers have their own fuse.

I’d check it’s just not been removed as it’s something I did on all of each of my cars as I got sick of spraying the bonnet every time I cleaned the windscreen with the lights on. When I removed the fuses in mine I always put it into one of the spare unused slots so I could put it back if ever needed.

The placement of the fuse is clearly marked on the box under the bonnet.

All of that said whoever modified the bumper mat have done something else

Thanks Kiteland, but do you know if there are 2 motors or 1? I thought to wash the lights I pressed the washer button for the headlamps? Are you saying they washed also when using the wipers? Such a ridiculous reason to fail an MOT considering there is never a bit of dirt on the car

PJ - Kiteland must have an MY05+. The geniouses at Honda altered things so that the headlight washer and the windscreen both activate when you wash the windows. The earlier MY's have a separate button.

There are two different fuses form memory, which would suggest that there are two motors in the earlier cars. It might be a long shot, but you could try and rig something to work striaght from the windscreen washers, if your prevous owner has removed all of the gubbins.

Failing that, you could always remove the headlight washers and take the car to another MOT place?

Racking my brains to remember if it's just the one motor - I'm pretty sure it is, located behind the bumper in front of the front right wheel.

Got to say - it's not a ridiculous reason at all - clearly stated in the MOT regs that if you have HID lights, you must have washers, and that they must be working. Claiming the car never gets dirty is even less valid

Hope you get it sorted quickly though chap

Bugger you've just reminded me that I need to buy a new washer pump motor before MOT time in Dec, mines goosed

OP No, there are two separate pumps attached to the reservoir, one for the windscreen, one for the headlights

Chances are the last owner either pulled the fuse or disconnected the motor when he decided to remove the jets.
I have some pics somewhere, I'll dig them out later for you.

Thanks Earls that would be great, going to get the car on the ramp later and find out what I need, I am guessing at;

1. A working headlamp washer motor / fuse - connected up.
2. The jets themselves which are there already.
3. Some rubber tubing which I think has been removed.

Am I missing anything?

Wasn't it that if you have washers they need to work?

So could you not just remove them?
