IIRC I didnt know mugen made an air filter?

That's the same Ebay ID who sold the J's ECU recently I think.

Seem to sell quite a few S bits.

Think they would be better off spending a tenner and putting them on here!

The mugen filter is a direct replaceement for the stock filter. The CAI comes with a smaller filter made be aFe which has a smooth dome on the front to aid airflow.

Good alternative to the k&n filter.

Is it true though that you have to remove more than just the filter element for the K&N? (i.e. some bits of flexible hose and rigid pipe near the filter box), this is what I was told...

If so, a bit too intrusive whilst the car's still in warranty, maybe?
