yeh oil has been kept clean and topped up all its life

1st of all i dont know wot a 55plate

The clutch and brakes always stink after a hard drive...but i guess this is normal ..

however the tapping engine noise is noticeable at standstill with clutch dipped, and whilst driving?....could this be the s2000 engine problem that is much talked about...if so wot do i do to prevent engine destruction?

The S2000 engine is recognised as one of the finest powerplants in the world.

I am not aware of any weak spots or inherent problems. A percentage of any engines will break, and in this respect the S2000 is no different.

However, major problems such as cylinder wear in 90's BMWs - not here.
