Could be, the S has a snickety gear change, not so sure on the whining noise though. A local could have a look at it if you ask.

A certain amount of driveline noise is normal, it is noticeable after
a FWD car.

But how noisy is yours? Like Ade said someone would gladly have a
listen, where are you Fishr?

Russ.

Great, isn't it

It is probably normal - it does make more noise than a normal car, expecially when cold. It takes a bit more work to drive the car smoothly also, so things should quieten down as you get used to it. Get yourself to a meet and ask someone else to listen as mentioned above if you are worried.

My test drive 4.5 years ago was conducted by the dealer principal who had raced cars and still races bikes - he scared my $hitless on some country roads, so I learnt then what the car was meant to sound like

Defo sounds like the buzzy clutch problem/idiosyncracy when decellerating. I used to think it sounded like a touring car too.

I chopped my 00 in for an 04 after nine months though 'cos it started getting on my nerves.

Sounds normal to me. It certainly will be more noticeable than the usual euro box because you have the drivetrain right next to you. I wouldn't say it is anything to worry about, unless it gets noisier and noisier.

Sounds normal to me - but get a local to check it out, as offered.

From the passenger seat, sound's like you should expect shrapnel coming in!

The car could not be further away from a 'Lude:

Very smooth engine sound, noisy cogbox, no torque, crashy ride, handling you have to work at.
