Then remove the PDA... or keep the windows up...

Stop being so difficult graham

Left side mounting would be useless for me as you have to be precise with the touchscreen and im very much right handed...

Right, I'm going to give this a go and being left handed the left vent will be perfect. Anyone tried removing the official vent mount without breaking either it or the vent?

I'm not, I'm totally serious. I'm talking about people reaching in and swiping it while you're driving it and sat in traffic or at lights or whatever.

Happens to shopping, handbags etc on passenger seats in covertibles pretty regularly, don't see why it couldn't happen to a PDA or sat nav that close to the "edge" of the car either.

Just for the convenience of right handed over left handed use of my satnav? Don't be daft

(Don't get me wrong - the placement of yours looks good and nice and neat, but I wouldn't risk it. Certainly not in Reading.)

Understandable, but I really literally could not operate the thing with my left hand..

Cheers.

I'm ambidextrous - I can be a wanker with either hand

Was just a consideration, that's all.

Like it. Like it a lot. I have TomTom Navigator 5 on my PDA, which has a screen mount bracket with powered speaker (the Dell Axim X30 has a poor speaker which is no good in the S) but it's a pain, as the GPS receiver is the old TomTom Bluetooth version which has no car charger with it and only lasts 5 hours max (when it was new). Cos it's in the top of the secret compartment, I often forget to turn it off when I get where I'm going and have to guess my way back! More annoying for the Scamera database and estimated time of arrival than directions!

I've been thinking of changing to a One or a Go, especially since mine was broken into - I am certain they saw my mount and went in looking for the SatNav, so the bracket is now removed and stowed in the boot - something else to bother with everytime I park! A Go or One on a vent bracket would just be one thing to sort out, rather than remove PDA, remove bracket, remove sucker mark and turn GPS off.

Is your setup well fixed in place, i.e., would it be easy to remove the bracket and replace everytime you left the car? I was going to switch to the vent mount to avoid having to clean the sucker mark each time I park as well! (in case you think I'm mad, the Police reckon cars being broken into is seriously on the up, purely due to SatNav's and the scum bags will break in for a look even if you just have a sucker mark on the window!

GrahamB: I was also paranoid of top down thefts, but due to hard wiring and being entirely with Bada Bing on the non-factory fit look, I couldn't have lived with the wire trailing across the dash - only just accept the bracket on the window! 3 years on, on OK so far on the theft front, but I bet it's happened to quite a few people!

For you future purchasers, TomTom recently unveiled their new range of Go's which are due out soon.
I'll probably opt for the 510 when I change cars. (another S, of course! )

Cheers,

Neil
