Default My sick '02 model S2K :( :(

I've had the problem for a while now and it doesn't seem to be getting fixed!

It's the old favourite 'kangerooing', BUT not in traffic! This happens when I've been driving for an hour or so, park up and go shopping or whatever! But when I get back to the motor and try to drive off it all goes wrong At less than 3000rpm the 'S' wants to stall? To get over it I have to dip the clutch and give a lot of gas, not to flash in Oxford town centre

It's been looked at by the dealers and after taking it back yesterday I finally got some sort of answer? There are signs of water tracking down one of the looms? And it was supposed to be sorted, well so they told me All was well when I left the garage until i got just outside of Swindon on the A420, when the Engine Management Light came on and I went back to the garage

I'm really getting pissed with this problem! It's not all the time but it's so annoying and why can't it be fixed!

And to make it worse, I'm now driving around in a Civic Auto Yeah it's nice to have wheels but not when you buddys are coming up for the weekend

Any ideas people?

What's been done so far?

I've had a failed idle control valve replaced for the very similar symptoms....

There has also been one case on the board of a loom problem. I think they ended having to replace the loom...

Oh, here's an idea. Drive the Skoda when mates are round...

Matt,

That's not good at all mate, and to have problems at such a highly recommened dealer as well.

I bet it doesn't help to get over missing the Teg either.

Mat555,

Nothing concrete / helpful to add but I have had experience of this type of problem.

I used to do a 'flying mechanic' role in the states as a development engineer when my company was trying to avoid 'lemon law' recalls.

The unsolved electrical problems were usually down to poor diagnosis by the dealer - and often caused by something trivial like bad earth points, bent pins in connectors etc.

This problem you've got is probably similar - i.e. it can be fixed, it needn't be complex and all that's required is for your dealer to THINK rather than just keep replacing bits in the hope that it will get better.

brian - - - I could use the RS, but the boss keeps the keys hidden from me as I always bring it back empty

Well I've got the baby back and it's been washed and waxed for my troubles I was a little angry with my dealer last night though and I think they were a little worried I may get bitchy

Ok, so now I've got rid of the Civic auto and got my rather spanking looking S2K back what did they do?

I'll see what I can remember? There is a sensor that runs over the gearbox tunnel and goes to the ECU, there were signs of water tracking on the connector, so the loom was checked out and all connections dried and greased up, I also had a loose connection on the O2 sensor! The mechanic has seen this problem before but only on the mk1 S2K, but he went about looking for it in the same way and he believes it should be fixed now, time will tell.

The dealers, Fish Bros in Swindon were honest and I appreciate that! And they did a good job with the wash and wax, so I'll give them a break for now

But what a drive back I had dry empty roads from Swindon to Burford, oh I ended up in Stow on the Wold Sometimes when the conditions are good there is nothing like the S2K to make you smile, AWESOME

Just need to spot some more S2K's around here now

Happy again

Hi Ian, I've been a little quiet. One of my buddys had a real bad crash in his 'S' and I went underground (if you know what I mean!). Speed was a factor not a car failure, but it really shock me up, but I'm around again I did really get to a stage where I wanted to bin the 'S'! The Integra was just such a good car in all conditions, but I could and I did drive it hard all the time, and with the conditions of late and many sideways movements I was thinking maybe I need some winter wheels, but I know I needed to give the 'S' a break as it's my first rear driver! I think before next winter sets in I'll sort some winter tyres, or buy a work horse!

But after the drive I had today, wow the 'S' is so bloody good! It's easy to forget in the middle of winter when your only moving sideways on your drive! But come the warm weather, there's not much better

I think it may be time to join now

Matt,

Glad your back to enjoying the S, I came the same route from an ITR, though later than you, I remember you anouncing that you were changing to an S on the Honda-R board, that got me thinking... and I followed suit last November
Have to admit at this time of year I would have been going quicker in the Teg than I do in the S, but maybe thats a good thing , still managed to on the way home tonight though dry roads but bloody cold. If only Honda would inport the new Teg, as I feel the old one is looking rather dated now. Anyway enjoy the S

Matt

I have had both of your two problems with my 02.

The kangarooing has baffled the dealer, and appears only to happen in the specific circumstances you described. I have found that an exclusive diet of super/optimax helps. Also, when driving off after stopping for a while, if you drive VERY gently, with low revs for the first few minutes, the problem does not arise. My dealer says he has never come across the problem before, and wants to test drive it to check it. I am not too bothered as it always clears up, and I am convinced it is something that a CAI would fix (if it would not affect the warranty). I have decided to live with it for now.

Re the loom. The dealer has confirmed that this is a common problem with the 01 model which he thought would have been sorted in the 02, but clearly not. They replaced the oxygen sensor on the catalyst on mine (as diagnosed by the ECU), but the problem was still there, at which point they concluded it was water getting into part of the wiring loom again. They then replaced the loom, and no more engine management light so far.

I wondered if jet washing the underside of the car to remove salt was forcing water into the loom?

Blimey that's freaky euan. Your problem is identical to mine, and we both do the same things to get over it, Optimax/low revs and all the rest!! Your thoughts on a CAI are the same as my own, worth a try but I don't want any warranty or insurance difficulties! The problem has not come back to haunt me after I collected the 'S' back yesterday, and I've tried the same situations that caused it before, so maybe just maybe it's sorted now!
If you want to talk to my dealer for a more detailed description of what was carried out then let me know and I'll pass on some contact details.

Ian, I hear you loud and clear! It's no bad thing to be slowing down and enjoying the drive, but you can't even try that in the Integra, it's to darn raw but great fun when your in the mood!

Off for another test
