Default New Head Unit/Speakers - Worth It?

I'm mulling over the option to replace the standard head unit and/or speakers in my 2009 S2000. Mr JP (who owned the car before me) recommended the Alpine CDE-9882ri as a good option to improve sound quality and get iPOD control. It would also be nice to have DAB for Planet Rock , therefore I'm looking for recommendations for other head units and speakers. Price not an issue (within reason).

TIA,
Dave.

None of the Alpines have DAB but you might be able to hook up a mobile phone with internet to hear Planet Rock...

If you do want DAB, you'll need a new/separate aerial.

Withing price ranges, most of the head units are much of a muchness really, so it's merely a question of finding one with DAB and iPod controls.

Alpines are usually good, as are Pioneers.

I think my Alpine 9887R/ SPR17 combination (see my sig) is great, especially with the Imprint setup.

Alpine 9887 for me too. I have new speakers to go in, but even with stock it makes a hell of a difference. Getting the Imprint done has transformed the performance. As soon as I have fitted the new Alpine SPR speakers I'll let you know what they're like

Is the Alpine 9887 worth the extra money over the 9882?? Seems to be quite a bit more expensive?

Well, it has a lot more features - you can get a good comparison on the car audio direct website.

Major differences are

9887 has better DAC (24 Bit rather than 1 bit)
Imprint
4x60 instead of 4x50
Full Parametric EQ
Full time Alignment
Fancier display

Won't charge an iPhone 3GS (but will work with it.)

OK I think I'll go for the Alpine 9887, and forget about DAB. How did you guys get the Imprint done? Did you have to buy the KTX-100EQ (£160) to do it yourself, or did you get it done as a one of at a car audio dealer?

It will if you use the KCA400-BT Bluetooth adapater and the new charging cable it comes with when you buy it

Or use a Scosche passport converter

I have a KTX100 and we had a mini-meet in Milton Keynes. There will be another at some point in the near future I think. Whereabouts are you?

I've heard that DAB is a waste of time in cars anyway, the signal just isn't strong enough across enough of the country, so keeps dropping out on the move. That's partly why it hasn't been adopted by manufacturers with the glee that other new tech has. There's a French digital system (think it's called DRM but not sure) which is supposed to be significantly better than DAB anyway, and then HD Radio needs its time in the sun, so I won't be buying into any digital radio in the car until the format wars are fought. The last thing I want is a bloody Betamax rammed in my dashboard...

Thanks man. I'm in Staffordshire but will travel!! Alternatively, if it's the sort of thing which would benefit from repeated fine tuning (I have been accused of being a perfectionist!!), I'm prepared to fork out for one myself.
