Default New Headunit For My S2000

Hey,

I'm after a new headunit for my S2000 as I've finally had enough with the OEM stereo (poor sound, reception etc etc lol)...

I'm aware that not all stereos will fit snuggly behind the stereo cover (due to the volume button sticking out too much).

Im just wondering which headunit you guys have, whether it fits and more importantly whether it’s any good

I'll be posting up pics of the new car shortly, absolutely love it

Thanks
Alex

Hi Alex,

I have an Alpine 9885R. The sound quality is great and it also has an Ipod connection. You should have a look here for some inspiration

Pretty much all of them fit

It's when you start adding hands free Bluetooth bulky dash control modules that things get fun

alpines are good and sell well on here when you pArt out

The modifry dash controller is tiny so fits with ease and again sells well
there are other controllers btw.

The headunits with the motorised screens are not an option without serious modification.

I'm running the Modifry controller with my Alpine HU - a great mod.

I'm running a Pioneer unit that is fab with up to five phones connected via BT, iPod/Phone controls, etc.

Basically, any 1 DIN unit will work, so the sky and your budget are the only limits. As long as there are no pop out screens you'll be fine.

Looking at the thread linked above, how well can the sub actually be heard in the cabin?

Chad.

It's not going to rip your face off with bass but it adds a nice depth to the sound especially when you set up the system properly with crossovers and amplifiers with a good source unit.

There's a couple of threads on this in the electronics forum here https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=26 as well as a wealth of information.

Do remember that a sub woofer should be used for just that purpose - sub-bass frequencies which are felt more than they are heard.

If you want good bass, then get a really good set of components first (as well as amplification) and then let the sub fill in below them.

Thanks for all the info guys, its much appreciated!

So basically as long as the stereo doesn’t have a TV flip screen I should be ok? Originally I was a little concerned as I heard some reports that on some models the volume control knob can stick too much meaning the stereo door can’t be closed...

I've been looking at the following headunit...

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde...36u6n8koivli401

Good buy do you think?

I'll have to buy the optional ipod lead but the fact that you can change the colour of the display to red means I'd prefer this headunit over the 114bt model...

If possible I'd like to retain the CD drive so I ruled out the iDA models.

If it pokes out too much you can always modify the brackets so it sits back a little.. its just a case of re-drilling some new holes.. 5min job... I managed to get one of these bad boys to fit properly by doing just that

picked up an ipod adaptor for about £20-30 and I can now play pretty much anything I want in the car..
