Use a Shell credit card and you get double (or maybe triple? ) points.

I only use the credit card to buy petrol, and pay the bill in full each month.

I don't have and *never* will have a credit card.

Guess I'm stuck with single normal average points

Why's that, Steve? I've never really understood that mentality - so long as you're careful to pay it off each month, what's the issue? (Not criticising - I'm genuinely interested to understand why you think they way you do ) I have a Shell Visa card for the sole purpose of getting more points when I fill up - I don't use it for anything else.

Whenever I put petrol in, I simply transfer via online banking the amount spent on fuel out of my current account into my "holding" savings account, and then pay the credit card off out of that holding account when the bill arrives. No chance of getting caught out by the amount spent as it disappears from my current account just as if I'd paid in cash or by debit card.

That's the key to managing credit cards if you're not absolutely loaded. Use them and pay them off immediately via internet banking. It's taken me years to work this out

I don't use mine for fuel, just internet purchases and work expenses.

The temptation is always there to buy stuff i cannot afford. I got my self into a lot of debt (we'll seemed like it back then) a little while back and found it very unpleasent.

Basically I can't trust myself and as i dont need one i've not got one!

Neil - Why bother with a credit card if you pay it off after you use it? You might as well just pay with your switch card?

I wouldn't use my switch card online. Credit cards nearly always have fraud protection. If someone steals your switch number they could empty your current account (presuming it isn't already empty because you've been spending too much money on your car )

Fair point!
