Default New Owner - help needed

Hi guys, Tom here from Bristol - a proud new owner of a 2005 S2000 GT, Moonrock Grey.

I'm after a little bit of help if I can please - The car is suffering from a little bit of hesitation whilst driving in lower gears at lower revs (2-3k in 2nd/3rd), as well as dropping below idle as soon as the throttle is released, such as parking or slowing for a junction.

I've had a look under the bonnet, but couldn't find anything particularly untoward. However, I did find one connection unplugged, which I remade, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference to the idle issue.

Can someone please identify the connection for me?

Many thanks!

Vtec solenoid I think?

Try reseting the ecu. Pull the fuse.

Mine did this when I installed my new exhuast and manifold. After pulling the fuse and resetting the ecu it was cured after a drive round the block.

HTH

And welcome

Mike

Thanks Mike, that would be likely to explain the fault code I picked up when the CEL came on then. P1259, VTEC System Malfunction.

I assume that's the back up fuse you refer too? I've been doing a lot of reading about the car over the weekend!

I'll give it a shot tomorrow and see how it runs.

Yeah. I followed this https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/index.php...&f=22&t=549159

If you need a new solenoid drop bow1build aka greg a line, he has several s2ks he is breaking. Ive done business with him before and cant recommend hin enough.

There is much to learn, I still am learning!

Let us know how you get on

Did you have the VTEC CEL code before you reconected the solanoid or after?

And,

Does the car actually go into VTEC now?

Really odd that the VTEC soleniond would be disconnected, I guess that means you test drove with it off too ? - I can't think what a previous owner would have deliberately done that for unless they were scared of "vtec kicking in yo"

As a new owner you'll get directed to the FAQs a lot so here's your first one https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/301...st__p__5798522

To me, I would start with a clean of the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) and the throttle butterfly while you're there - then an ECU reset as descrived above - that should sort your idle issues out

The OP has a 2005 S so the kick from the VTEC wouldn't have been that big. and its drive by wire so the throttle stuff doesn't mean much. A MAP whack might help As Ben said have a look at the FAQ's there's a really good thread on hesitation.

I only reconnected the solenoid after the CEL came on, but can't be certain whether it was disconnected previously or whether it came detached through some brisk acceleration. I haven't tested it again yet, but will try tonight. However, seeing as I don't think I've experienced VTEC at all yet, it could be interesting!

Thanks Ben, as above I don't know whether it was off when I tested the car, but I'd assume so. It was very wet around a town centre anyway, so VTEC action was out of the question! I'm a little concerned that it was unplugged to mask a problem with the solenoid or other VTEC components, but I guess only testing will tell.

I'll give the throttle cleaning a try anyway - no doubt after 83k it's likely to be pretty grotty!

Thanks for the advice Rich. It's definitely got a throttle cable, and is actually a bit slack so I'll tighten that up too. My understanding is that DBW was on the 2006 onwards models?
