Default New owner in Herts...

After several months of looking around, I finally sealed the deal yesterday on a V plate Black S2K...
I was sooo happy BUT this morning, my car started to kangaroo when in 2nd gear and I started to think that maybe something was wrong!
The rest of the drive was fine, so is this normal behavior first thing in the morning ?

Also can someone in Herts recommend a Honda dealer to carry out the recall work as it appears that it was not done as part of its service in Sept...

Thanks
Sarah

Welcome to the forum Sarah, Congrats on your choice of car. Some of the owners have found using Shell Optimax has eliminated the Kangarooing effect.

Hi Sarah - welcome!

I have only had my V plate since the beginning of June, I used to get it kangarooing sometimes to start with - and still do from time to time! I don't think it is a problem with the car, more like driver error (well it is in my case!). The engine is VERY responsive and only takes a touch on the throttle to get going, I had problems to start with on very bumpy roads in second where going over a bump made my foot bounce on the throttle, which in turn made the car jump and my foot bounce even more ...! I also find that you can use 3rd where you would expect to use 2nd in any other car, this has the effect of making the car less responsive to throttle movement!

I still now get a cough sometimes when crawling in traffic and trying to pull away, this is normally because I have not given it some extra revs, the engine does need to rev a little higher than you would normally think - this could be down to the relatively low torque of the car.

HTH and happy 'ing!!!

- Frisky.

I'd heard about using Shell Optimax, so I filled up the tank last night. I had hoped that it was me, as I have just switched from a Golf Gti T, so I guess it will just take me a while to adjust to the required driving style of the S2k...

Welcome to the 'club' Sarah.

I wouldn't worry too much about the kangaroo effect, several people have mentioned it on the board and generally with time the problem resolves itself.

If you don't have any joy with Crown Honda, Aylesbury Honda are excellent. Perhaps a bit out of your way but they are first class. Tel: 01296 319800

They are doing my recall work at the end of this week and have already done another board members car.

Hi Sarah.

I've heard that Crown, Bushey is very good. I haven't had any work done there but have spoken to them on several occasions and they seem to know what they are talking about - which is more than can be said for Braylake in Hemel Hempstead.

WRT kangarooing, I use Optimax and still quite regularly have this effect. You get to know when it's going to happen (usually when car is 'cold' or having hit stop/start traffic after a fast stretch) and learn to drive through it. Best way is just to dip the clutch and give the throttle a quick blip.

Good to see someone else in this area!

Looks like I'll be taking my car to Crown - Honda.
Its funny that you mention Braylake in Hemel Hempstead, I found them to be quite abrupt when I refused to put down a deposit on a used S2k, at the time my finances had not been sorted and I was only making an inquiry...

Looking forward to my drive home, hopefully plenty of if the traffic is good!

I agree about Crown Honda in Bushey Heath, I've had all of my work carried out by them and have nothing but the highest recomendation!
I'll have to keep an eye out for you in the area
