Default New Rubber

Had some new rear tyres put on yesterday. Car felt definitley twitchy today (while I was taking a lad for a ride for his 18th birthday). Is this normal? Should I have spent a little longer running them in?

What tyres are they? I know when I put F1's on I was told it would take 100 miles to wear the coating off the tread. Don't know if this is or not. Car did feel better the more I drove it tho.

Ade,

All new tyres are covered in a coating which is the release compound they use to remove the tyre from the mould. I would say they were optimistic with the 100 miles, I'd think more like 300. It's not an exact science though, so you'll tell by feel I reckon as it wears off. Also the tread needs to 'roughen up' quite a bit before the tyres will be generating the best grip.

Oops - should have been a bit more careful then. But it's good to know that the condition isn't permanent. To be honest it felt better towards the end of the drive.

They're S02s and have probably done about a hundered by now.

Ian..............behave.
