Default Jumping out of 1st gear

Hi everyone,

Just bought a 05' S2000 and enjoying it except for one problem. When pulling away it has jumped out of 1st gear 3 times so far, unfortunately did not happen when I test drove it. I have changed the clutch fluid completely but it has happened again. Reading theses forums it seems it was a common problem 04' onwards but I can't find anywhere if there is a cure or anyway to make it less likely to happen (except for new gearbox). Can anyone help me?

Thanks in adavance of responses

Change your gearbox oil is the only thing you can do without taking the gearbox out.

How easy is it to take the gearbox out and then what can be done and what sort of cost is it?

I think this was an issue in the MY04 / early MY05.
Have you bought it from a dealer as this was normally cured by warranty gearbox work. (I think blue_monster struggled with this a while ago).

Change the gearbox oil and see if it gets better.

If it gets worse get a second hand box

Mine (MY 05) does this occasionally and has done since I bought the car 5 years ago. It happens more so when the engine is cold and makes a nasty 'clunk' as it kicks out of gear. I put it down to me not quite putting it into first firmly enough.

I don't lose any sleep over it though and became accustomed to being a bit firmer after start up, the same as being cautious on the change from first to second when it's cold (pausing in neutral) to stop the crunch. Just one of those little foibles you get used to.

Unless it's really bad I would try and live with it for a while, you may find it improves as your driving style adjusts to the car.

Enjoy the new motor

Mine's 05 and does this occasionally, especially when cold.

What you need to do is keep your hand on the stick for half a second as you pull away, same goes for all gears, the S gearbox dosn't like being snatched about, keep the changes long.
