Default A new toy!

I picked up this 2001 AP1 S2000 at the weekend and I can't stop smiling!

Quick Spec: Just over 60k miles, FSH, 12 months MOT (no advisories) Uprated disks and 'RedStuff' pads, AEMV2 and somekind of aftermarket ally radiator.

This is my first S2000 and its by far the best thing I've ever bought. The sound it makes with the AEM V2 intake is incredible! There's a few things to sort out, one being a bit of surface rust on the O/S rear arch and I think It's due a 60k service. I need to make a decision on which oil manufacturer to go with so any recommendations would be much appreciated

I'm relatively new to S2Ki and I've seen many useful threads on here which I’m sure will keep me occupied for hours!

looks like a very nice tidy car but seems strange to have a ally radiator fitted with those modifications, i would pay allot of attention to see if it's had a front ender and they fitted a ally rad as there cheaper then stock/oem ones.

Wise words... And check if your aircon works too. The aem is a loud mother****** on full tap, great for tunnels and under bridges.
Have a search about oil.. Seems that many use 10w40. Search TCT and check for any noises on tickover. Other than that, enjoy your car and welcome

Check for leaks in the boot, and ensure the drain holes are clear...searching for 'boot leak' will provide my write up on hood drains.

let the lad enjoy the car! I'm sure he checked for damage when he bought it and it's not that uncommon for a car to have had a new rad following a small front end, or maybe even the old rad sprung a leak!

With all due respect, this is prob a £5-6k car at this time of year, for that money its a lot of smiles per mile and I would not be worried if the car has had a small prang at some point in its 10 year life, lets be honest, lots have!

Cheers for the replies guys, I'll check the boot next time it rains and the air con is fully working. It's all HPI clear so I don't think it’s been pranged. Everything looks straight and true in the engine bay anyway.

I'm assuming there’s a thread on here about the idle? It sometimes likes to drop down quite low when the clutch is depressed. Also, on start-up it revs to 2k then slowly falls to 1k rpm. Having never owned a high revving vehicle such as the S2K before, is this normal?

Yep that idle is perfectly normal.

...but there are plenty of things that can cause it, and it shouldn't be apparent. Have a look in the FAQ/search for MB's idle thread.
