Default New Windscreen

Something hit my screen on the way to football sunday morning, went back to the car and there was a big crack. So now i need a new screen, luckily through insurance.

However I have read horror storys of some right fook ups with screens, screwdriver marks, ripped tape, etc.

Any tips on who I should be avoided. Althought I guess the insurance will use a 'trusted' supplier.

Cheers!

Autoglass is very good, they did mine a while ago and the job was very good. I think most insurance uses them, but check with your insurer.

It's luck of the draw with which fitter you get on the day I would expect - one of the bigger companies such as RAC Auto Windscreens that did mine or Autoglass will no doubt train everyone to the same standards, but someone might be having a bad day or just make a mistake.

If I'm having a some work like this done or my tires changed, I tend to take as many pictures as I can with the date and time on, so at least I have some proof that any damage caused wasn't there half an hour before the fitter arrived. So far not had any issues though and I've had 3 windscreens replaced over my nigh on 7 years of ownership.

Make sure they re-fit the mirror correctly - once I had one fitted and the mirror was flapping around afterwards! Think I've heard of this for other people too.

That Gavin bloke that does Autoglass's adverts seems to know what he's on about... ask if they'll send him out! :-)

when you take the car in ensure that the fitter or receptionist go over the car before they start so that there are no "it wasna me " get outs.
I got a chip repaired at rac recently, the fitter was out at the car 10 minutes before he came in and told me that the car had a problem and wouldn't start, I had to show him the button.
Although he did an outstanding job on a chip so big, I thought it was a screen replacement job.

If you go to Autoglass and say that you want their best technician, they will no doubt accomodate this, you may have to wait a little longer until they are available but you are safe in the knowledge that you have a lifetime workmanship guarantee. Any problems let me know!!

I used autoglass and demanded a GENUINE HONDA windscreen and seals.....

It took them a few days to order it in, but it all went well.....

Just make sure you keep your windows up when they are installing it.
My drivers side was down and got scratched when i put it back up

I've found the Pilkington screen to be far better than the OEM screen. My original screen (4 years old) had so many marks in it I could barely see through with a low sun, so I got an autoglass replacment.

5 years on and the Pilkington screen is still crystal clear.

When they removed my orginal windscreen..... they have to use a tool at the corners which breaks the edge of the glass and sends little splinters everywhere.

Some must have landed on the "fuzzy felt" on the inside of the rubber window guides.

When i "wound the window up" the glass shards scraped the glass.

They are quite small and inconsistant, nevertheless annoying when you notice them after cleaning the car

the passenger window was "left up" and it was fine.

Pilkington is probably good.... but i just went for the badge'd honda one - at no extra cost.
