Had a look at the 8 mpixel one - is it me or is the colour seperation between the edge of the trees and the sky really poor...

that's the good and the bad of having a lot of pixels in the camera....you can get mega sized prints (if you need them), but all the abberations of the lens and ccd + jpeg compression stuff is magnified at the same time...when you see the full size image.

Is it because your browser has shrunk it to fit it on the screen?

It looks OK in photoshop at full size.

I am considering going digital in the next couple of months, looks like I'll need to test drive a few cameras to see what comes up
