FWIW 99% of the traffic officers I work with in London wouldn't look twice at this ..... if it was smaller or in itallics they probably would stop you as it is not as easily read - you can clearly see how yours is made up and I personally would merely smile (though obviously I am a bit biased).
The guys I work with are far more interested in No Insurance / No licence ... infact 6 of them in under 2 hours filled up a transporter earlier this week with 11 uninsured cars - the frightening thing was that none got further than a mile from our base .... so be careful driving in London !
I have to index all the work the guys do and have never seen a ticket for a poorly spaced standard size plate.
I know that doesn't help how you feel .... but I'm just trying to say officers that do plates are in the minority and generally in my experience in the counties. No licence / insurance / mobile phone and seatbelts are the order of the day - not much else .... maybe the odd speeding ticket for a blind driver but thats about it.
As far as I know the DVLA haven't actually got round to recalling one single plate since they made that threat a few years ago - possibly something to do with the fact they appear to 'encourage' poor spacing, etc with their auctions .... which of course make them alot of money.
A coupel of years ago I was clipped by a moronic motorcyclist who undertook me and took my front wing with him. Several days later I received a letter from West Sussex Police. Apparently one of their PC's was on his way into work and witnessed the accident. They recommended I use their letter to prove the guilt of the other party and this made it very easy for me to prove it was the motorcyclists fault. (Every Sussex traffic policeman I have met has been a sensible human being)
The PC obviously had no difficulty in identifying me and my car from the plate.
Today you met a wanker. Underpaid, bored and jealous. As mentioned above, this waster should have been doing his job instead of bothering motorists with stupid revenue generating activities.
