I know that formula one teams use nitrogen in tyres rather than air but never heard of NO being used.

Dont think its Nitrous, but many race teams do run other gasses in their tyres due to the ability to maintain constant pressures - where as normal air will expand and/or lost and alter tyre characteristics as the track session continues..

Nitrogen has been proved to be much better even for road tyres as the molecules do not escape through the tyre compound as easily as normal air, it also stops the oxidisation of the rubber from the inside and the expansion characteristics are much better suited than air. I usually get it done at my tyre place for

As Kelk and Rahula say, it's nitrogen rather than nitrous oxide

(Putting NOS into his tyres is the kind of post Roku_F20C would put in S2000 Talk to wind people up )
