Default No vtec

After driving AE's car mine seemed a bit sluggish and I didn't notice such a difference when reaching 6000rpm.

Dad took the car for a spintoday and seems to think the cars overall acceleration is better than his but agrees that there is no great difference at 6000rpm

After doing a search it looks like people are suggesting MAP sensor.

Please can people throw ideas at me and explain what the MAP sensor is

Thanks in advance

It 'might' not be anything electrical/mechanically related.

I take it your comparing and MY02 with an MY09?

Could they have changed the fueling on the later cars, hence less/more of a kick at vtec?

Do you mean the kick when vtec engages?

The ECU maps on all four of the Eagle family cars are different.
Budgies Silver = mk1 with pronouced vtec kick
Yours = mk2 less kick
Seniors = mk3 even smoother
Lily = mk5 DBW

If it wasn't coming in you would know it!
There would be a big difference.
You could try disconnecting the vtec solenoid to prove it one way or the other

Or you could snap the vtec oil pressure switch off like me when changing an oil filter.

No problem Jap ECU don't look for it

Mine's a JDM MY99 and the vtec switch is as noticeable as a pair of bare lady-lumps at henley regata.

I expect the boys are correct with the above suggestions

Remove the airbox lid and try again.

You will really hear the step change in VTEC.

But as mentioned, if it wasn't working it would drive like a 2 litre Civic shopping car.
