Hi - I drove the car home late last night and parked her in the garage.
Being around midnight the area was silent and I couldn't believe how noisy the car was as she cooled down.
A loud chatter of metallic "tinks" carried on for about 5 min in the garage after the engine was switched off.

She probably does this all the time but I usually park outside for a few minutes before moving her into the garage so don't hear it as I'm in the house.

Do other peoples cars make so much noise ? Is it worse because I've taken the airbox off (engine bay gets hotter) ?

Its not really a problem - just curious.

Its whats been dubbed the Distant Foghorn . Apparently its something to do with fuel vapour, the car has a system to stop it escaping or something like that

Ditto to all the above, the S2000 is still waaaay quiter than the GT Turbo though - that'd really clink and groan as she cooled

yeah I've noticed that too! I always park my car in the garage as soon as I get home. I think it's the catalyser which gets really hot and you can hear it popping and making strange noises. The manual actually states that you shouldn't keep the car running in the garage as the cat gets very hot and could cause a fire! I'll check the page.

I think it's quite a nice sound actually - it shows what a hot-blooded animal this car really is

I've heard that Concorde stretches about 6" in length at Mach2 due to air friction heating and therefore expanding the metal airframe.

Perhaps the same thing's happening on our S's, and the ticking noise (which I too have noticed) is the bodywork etc. shrinking back to its original dimensions

But seriously folks, the noise I've noticed seems to come from the exhaust cans. They must get pretty hot, and the Cat / silencer components and their supports will have to contract back. Thoughts?

...could that be the cooling fan on the radiator. Even when the ignition's been turned off, the cooling fan sometimes continues to operate for a minute or so until the thermostat says it's cool enough. This can happen especially if you've been sat in traffic for a while and there hasn't been sufficient airflow over the radiator fins to cool the water.

Could be - the car gets very hot after a heavy VTEC session.

The humming you hear is the fuel pump maintaining pressure in the fuel lines.

I've actually gone back to the car many hours later >4 and if you're near it long enough you can still hear it, must be a way of encouraging you to go out and do it all again .

Clicks, clacks and clangs will be engine, header, heat shield, exhaust manifold and pipes / boxes all cooling.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet

Doesn't the same rule go for parking on grass, particularly long grass, as well?

So that's why women always have problems parking cars - they expand if they are driven for long periods of time
