Thumbs up Noisy Hardtop....

Ive had the hardtop on for a couple of weeks now and i can now remember why i removed it in the 1st place.

I thought for a while it's the "strikers", but by using coolant hose (in the FAQ) and placing it over the hooks - it considerably tightens the front of the roof down.

I Seem to be hearing more noise from the back of the hardtop instead of the front... but every where i go i always hear creaks and when i encounter bumps or country lanes its just not acceptable.

If i bought replacement strikers (like the ones Itchy jst sold) i cant see it getting a whole lot better.

There is more noise coming from the back and i dont know how to fix it!

MIght i be able to lube something or i remember reading that Shin-etsu grease along the rubber at the front of roof seal helps.

Does anyone else have the same problem or is it just a fact that hardtops for S2K's make noise as they move around?

I put my hardtop back on at the weekend and had the same creaking.

You just need to put a little greece on the seal behind the softtop

I had the same problem through the whole of last winter , just put up with it.

It was only when i removed it i realised it was not sitting right, so jigged it about a bit and tried again just for my own peace of mind.

result....silent.

Give it a try might work for you.

I reduced the rattles loads on mine by putting a black cable tie around the end of each soft top hook/handle to hold it down secure because they were jiggling and rattling every time I went over a bump.

The other area aI found trouble was the "metal nobbly sticky outy bits" (technical term) on the front edge of the hard top - which clanked against the striker plates. Cured by wrapping a small length of electrical insulation tape around the nobbly bits.

I have found all of the above need doing.

Shin-etsu grease right round the Hardtop base, making sure the area at the back in your picture get a good amount of Shin-etsu grease along the rubber.
Also the plastic surround behind the soft top ( Think it is black), I added a good amount of wax to it also.

The strikers, just make sure they are not loose, and they'll be fine.

Last but not least, throw your Hardtop on your car, but make sure the 3 bolts on either side of the Hardtop are loose, and when your Hardtop is in place, give it a good wriggle, and then retighten the 3 bolts on either side again.

I have encoutered your problem, and above is what I did to solve the issues, and now it is silent inside my cabin, no noise at all from the Hardtop.

Try it and let us know how you get on

I found that the creaking comes from the plastic trim around the rear window and not the seal itself. The only way of getting rid of the problem is to remove the trim , apply some silicone grease to all the mating parts and where the trim touches the window and then reassemble.

Don't waste your money buying that stuff, this stuff is half the cost and you get more too.
