Ok, so its a little way ahead, but while the nights get longer and people keep taking the piss about what Top Gear said, how about considering bringing your car to the Nurburgring next Easter? After all, you too can pass this many Boxsters:



Maybe I should email that to the poncey prat at TG - you know, the one who looks like Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen's slightly less gay brother? I digress...

As usual, there will be a Jersey contingent making the trip over to the Ring, generally thrashing the nuts off our respective cars over the long weekend, enjoying the local beer and schnitzels and revelling in the approving looks from people in the pits - oh, not to forget the IMMENSE satisfaction of beating 911s, M3s, Scoobys, Elises, etc, etc on the track itself.

Hopefully there will be two Jersey S2000s (hooray), in company with a series 2 Elise (oh dear), a VX220 (oh deary me) and a German registered Opel Speedster (still a Vauxhall). Don't tell me you don't fancy doing this.....

No? Instead of sitting at home grumbling about how the S2000 would have toasted the Porker on a dry track, why not take one on at the home turf and tell all your mates when you get back how many performance icons you slayed????

It certainly keeps me feeling nice and smug when the next spotty git comes up and sniggers "0.4 seconds? Thought your car was quick?" The reply "yeah, well I've never been beaten by a Boxster when on a sub-9 minute lap of the Nurburgring" eases the pain a lot!

I have been but didn't get to drive the circuit , it's a long story

 

You didn't get noise-tested and then binned did you?

Or was it closed due to accidents?

Or was it simply not open to the public that day? : )

IMHO its a place that all drivers should take their car at least once in their lives!

we were there last year, 2 of my mates binned their bikes, and another chap died. Its a fab place, but bloody dangerous. sign me up!

 

This will be my eighth trip to the Ring since 1999 and I've done 93 laps. My time has dropped from 9m:56s (Saxo VTS) to c.8m:50s (S2000) - not a bad improvement!

We've been lucky generally but have suffered the following:

1 written-off Yahama R6 (rider very lucky to only get bruised)

1 Lotus Elise spun off at 120 mph - complete with 2 sets of brown trousers

1 S2000 (mine!!) spun off by my mate - d'oh

2 serious accidents witnessed - luckily no fatalities

2 cars returned to Jersey on low-loaders after mech. failures

3 cars limped home to Jersey with less serious mech. failures

It IS a dangerous place but is hugely rewarding if you treat it (and other drivers) with respect and caution. The feeling after completing a fast and smooth lap is wonderful!

yeah, its when you see the local riders with worn elbow sliders... with the rear tyre completely chamfered off on both sides whilst the middle part has full tread. thats total respect - and huge qty's of envy! Local forest roads are good fun too...

For sensible car drivers, its no worse than any other circuit. The problems are caused by bikers coming off or morons blasting into unknown corners, totally unaware of their car's abilities.

There's a lot of kudos having driven the Ring, you know!

 

and u can buy a nice Ringer sticker too!

Its the bloody car drivers you have to watch out - that and the campavans trundling around leaking oil... The worst bends are where the locals like to stand and watch. And as for the Carousel: yum yum!

Ignore the number plate mounting device - it was only temporary as I didn't want the Belgian garage drilling four holes into the car!

IMHO driving the Ring is one of those "Must do before I die" things - and preferably NOT the "last thing I did before I died" : )
