Observation
I work for a shitty japanses car company and most of the cars that they ship to germany have no stereos at all.. apparently the germans like to choose what they put in (good stuff not the shitty factory jobs)
Id rather have this option so you dont end up with a spare unit lying about.

Manufacturers offer tape players as standard so that most customers will take the upgrade option to a CD player. They make more money that way
Personnally, I'd want a stereo that had tape AND CD input (and the CD can play mp3's of course). Are there any manufactuers that do a proper all in one unit?
My reaction was the same as most here. However we have sourced and fitted cassette players in place of cd players for those that have "special tastes" only now available on cassette.
Strange but true. If the customer wants it, then you apply a "can do" attitude.

That's exactly it.

Think the best way to go is to get an Ipod, there is a connection kit you can buy to wire it straight up to the stereo and it will even work with the S's stereo controls on the Dash, their are few people on the board with this already. Other than that sony have a good Idea with their memory sticks which hold MP3, video's etc. I hear (by rumor) that with their new head units you can load your videos on to them and they will play through the displays.
