Default Oil?!?

I am off to pick up my S2000 tomorrow and want to take with me and keep in the car a litre size of oil so I know I always have some available.

Before anyone shouts at me I have used the search function and read the FAQ - the search threw up 100's of posts but provided conflicting information from ine thread to the next. The FAQ talked about oil bit seemed to be more in relation to running an S2000 in from new.

So for the record, if I am off to Halfords to buy some oil for an '04 S2000 with 66k on the clock what should I bellowing to buy?

Many thanks in advance.

Si

5w40 Synthetic will be fine.
10w40 Semi is also ok.

Hi Si..

I use fully synth Shell Helix Ultra 5w 40, its perfect for the job and very much recommended.

Some use Castrol Edge 5w 40 fully synth (for diesel engines believes it or not!), and that is also perfect for the job.

DON'T, whatever you do, buy Halford own stuff. Don't ever skimp on oil quality, or tyres either come to think of it.

Use fully synth whenever you can, some drop to 10w stuff but its recommended that 5w 40 (thinner) is better.

Please don't ever use 0w oil, its far too thin and you may encounter problems after using for a while

Hope this helps (been running S2000's for over nearly 3 years now)

Would imagine both Shell and Castrol are available at Halfords so that's good, oil for a diesel engine is an interesting one!?!?!

Mobil is a brand most avoid, as the older cars like to drink it. Castrol Edge is a good buy.

I've just gone for Motul for my next service - you'll get that for a decent price on Opie the next time you do an oil change.

Is your car on MY04+? If so, oil usage isn't something you should be worried about, but still good practice to keep a bottle, just in case!

Is it seriously ok to put the Edge in the S2K? I know loads of people use it but the fact it's designed for diesel engines makes my brain hurt!! She'll not available at Halfords so looks like it will be Castrol.

Andy yess bud it's an '04 so from what I have read these tend to be ok with oil but like you say good practice to keep some in the car.
