Default Oil Usage

Hi guys i have read all the threads relating to this so i apologise for repeat thread but still i am unable to answer this question. I have a 2002 AP1 bought at 47,000miles now at 54,000miles. I have regularly used ~1.0 ltre of synthetic per 1000 mile since purchasing this car. Is this normal for this car? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

I also have an MY02 model.

During my sixteen day tour of Scotland I covered 2,400 miles, and used exactly one & a half litres of oil, which is typical of my current useage.

The oil in use is Castrol Edge 5W40 fully sythetic.

Try a 10/w40 or 5/w40 fully synth, Castrol edge if you can get it. Early S2K's are famous for drinking oil, thats life and nothing to stress about.

Cheers Dennohue for answering, this is still a lot less than my usage. I was told that this engine if parked for a period was susceptible to sticky valves allowing oil to be pulled via the head in to pistons. This car was parked up for ~ 7 months before i bought it and i am wondering whether i need to have the engine refreshed.

Thanks again Dennohue

Yes, every S is different, the handbook (not manual) advises checking every time you fuel the car. you will find it very sensitive to the brand of oil you use, hence me pointing you to Castrol edge. You will find different oils used at different rates. Mine used loads of Esso oil, Honda supplied, but not much Castrol.

Welcome, remember if you top with a new oil you will still have loads of whatever in the sump, will take a while to see any difference unless you do a full change.

I would suggest using a higher quality oil, such as fuchs titan race, or motul full ester synthetic oils. These have a much lower burn off rate in high revving engines like the F20c.Castrol edge is ok, but in my experience still burns off quicker than the afore mentioned brands. We use motul in our race honda engines and consumption dropped significantly after changing to that brand, although two oil changes in quick succession (1000 miles)is an ideal even if a little expensive, to clear old oil remnants and give new esters a chance to do their work.

I have switched to Motul 8100 and my consumption has been significantly lower than it was with Edge.

I intend to do a write up when it comes to the next oil change (I've already covered a few thousand miles) to provide some clear results.
