Unhappy Oil Use

Since my last service my car has really been getting through the oil. It's currently using approximately 1 litre per 1000 miles which means I have to top it up once a week! I know the engine is designed to use oil but this seems like quite a lot. I don't boot it when cold, there is no smoke, the car runs fine, etc. My only complaint would be that its sounds a bit tappy/clicky at times but then I think I was perhaps a little spolied for refinement with the 3.0l v6 I had before.

Suggestions/reassurance appreciated

Not unusual IME with my 02. Never seemed to be any rhyme or reason to the oil consumption.

My car seemed to use very little oil over first 5K, now doesn't seem to use any at all! First service at 4K in june and hasn't been topped up since!

I'm worried cos it isn't using any!

2004/2005 use much less oil than the older models.

My 05 is like your 04 Salty - my 02 drank like Oliver Reed.

Im confused as...

It has used 1 litre during the past 2000 miles - suggesting I drive like a pansy
I only managed 150 miles since the last fill up and the petrol light is already on - suggesting I've stolen Montoya's foot..

can someone please explain what is happening

Sounds like you got a hole in your fuel tank.

does doesnt it

I smell no fuel and normally get a lot more miles.... Although I have only done innercity driving so thats def going to impact it. will need to keep an eye on it.

BTW - since I moved from fully synthetic to almost but not quite synthetic (97%) I have gone through a lot less oil.

00/01 & 02/03 used about 1lt per 2,000 mils until 9,000 first sevice, after that doesn't use that much unless you are very heavy on the right foot.

04/05 doesn't seem to use very much oil at all, it would seem Honda had done something to the 04 engine.

nickrg3. You must have a very heavy right foot, and like to see the 9,000rpm flashing

My dealer (Mr made up story) told me that 1L pre 1000 mile is normal for the early S's...
But he then added that it was in the Handbook and if my was not an import (looking down his nose at this point) i would have it in mine.

BTW this is the same guy that told me you not supposed to skip gears on the way up the box..
