Oil when running engine in (again....)
Sorry to drag this old chestnut up again
But having searched and read a lot of stuff here, I'm still a bit unsure about this one - particularly after having today discussed this with the service manager at my local Honda place (albeit the same guy who told me not to bother running the engine in but to 'ring its neck from day one'.....)
My reading on this forum tells me that Honda themselves put 10-30W mineral oil in at the factory since mineral oil is a MUST for running the engine in. Then one goes to 5-40W fully synthetic after the first service.
The guy at my local Honda place says NO; Honda do NOT put mineral oil in at the Factory - he says mineral oil is pants. He also says to always top up ones engine (whilst running in and up to the first service) with 0-40W fully synthetic....... He ALSO says that my car as an import may well have had different weight oil (like 30-50W) put in it at the factory if destined for a hotter country such as Malta..... so do I need to get it changed as soon as I pick the car up?? NOW I'M REALLY
!!
So, questions please:
1. IS 10-30W mineral oil ABSOLUTELY what Honda put in at the factory (regardless of which country the cars are being exported to) and what must be also used to top the engine up whilst running in and up to the first service?
2. IS 5-40W fully synthetic the way ABSOLUTELY to go after the first service?
If the answer to the above two questions is categorically YES, then my local Honda shop don't have a clue what they are talking about
Any and all input - especially from others here who've bought new parallel imports via Malta - would be most appreciated.
RON

No don't worry. it's fine...
Get a good few thousand miles on before you change it. I doubt your engine will runner hotter in another country. the only thing would be it's cold start and that's not an issue because you get yours in the spring.
I doubt they know the destination when they make them other than the fact it's a UK spec car, dealer = shit . That's why you didn't buy one from him....
Top up with a reasonable oil like shell helix, mine used about a litre in it's first 6500 miles. choice of top up is not critical as long as its sensible.
