Default Optimax

Yes that old topic once again. I have been using Esso's SUL for the last 4 months because it is the easiest one to find. Today I filled it up with Optimax and it was very obvious the engine being smoother and dare I say it with a little more oomph. On my last car I religiously used Opti but this time I have used many including BP and Esso in the majority. I have just come back from a drive and even though it is hot outside the power was not lacking. Just making an observation and not very scientific one at that.

Ive been using optimax 3-4 of the last fillups but my last fillup was with total unleaded. My initial impressions were that the car did feel less smooth and yes a little less oomph. Dont know how much of this is related to the weight difference with a full tank, or how much fuel consumption may suffer.

Think Il stick to optimax.

Often thought about trying the Q8 stuff but never found one with it in!
Tried the Esso stuff, BP Ultima, Tesco 97 RON, Sainsbury 97 RON. Not sure I can tell the difference on one tank as the ECU would need to "learn" the difference or be reset?

Logically it is only the RON rating that will "affect" the power delivered. THe rest is just about what chemistry you prefer to keep your engine in good shape. Fairy Liquid from the supermarkets or the "high tech" chemistry from BP & Shell.

IIRC someone posted not long back that many of these performance petrols are all blended at the same refineries to slight different cocktails!

After being slated at the dinner table for mentioning "supermarket" fuel on Monday I am now going to try nothing but optimax for a bit to see if I can tell any difference.

Will continue with it until the competition is over and then treat the new supercar to nothing but grubby 99 Ron from Tesco

I work for an oil company (not saying which ) and have spoken to our loading terminal people on this one. They do all fill up from similar tanks, but they dont all add in the same additives when they leave A lot of them pull over and add their ingridients afterwards...

Im not sure how fast the active knock correction is on the Honda, but on other cars the ECU continually pushes to the edge of det (picked up from factory knock sensor on the engine block) when it sees a tiny bit, it backs off the timing. If you fill with a higher or lower grade fuel than the last tank, it should pick up on it reasonably quickly I would have thought.
