Default Other HKS kit

Getting an HKS exhaust fitted tomorrow morning at TDI in Essex.....can't wait!!!.

Was browsing their website and I saw that they offer other HKS kit in addition to the exhaust in a stage-wise performance upgrade.

Stage 1 is the exhaust. Stage 2 is a 4-into-1 exhaust manifold. Stage 3 is a racing suction kit.

Wondered if anyone had any experience with the bits of HKS kit other than the exhaust?. The suction kit in particular looks very and would certainly look better than my PRM!. Also apparently gives a dyno proven 7bhp!.

Not planning on these now but could be an interesting next step after the exhaust!.

Also.......what's the take on the HKS exhaust and performance gains?. IIRC.......basically you get a lot of noise and maybe a few bhp but not much?. Want to know how best to describe it to the insurance company!.

General concensus on the US side, where they seem to dyno their cars much more than we do, is that it's at best neutral and at worst will lose you a few bhp. It never worried me when I had mine though TBH - even if it lost, say, 5 bhp through being more restrictive, I'm not sure you'd be able to discern THAT much difference.

Scooby has got the full HKS set up - I'm sure he'll be able to offer comments.

(FWIW, I seem to remember Turtle commenting in the past that the HKS suction kit and manifold weren't the best bits of kit to get if you're after real gains. A search may turn up his words of wisdom. I'm always sceptical of manfacturer's stated "proven" gains - those clowns who advertise K&N CAIs in Evo every month claim something like 10 bhp gain from fitting one! )

In terms of what to tell your insurers, I simply told mine (Tesco) that it was not performance-enhancing - on that basis, I didn't get charged any additional premium.

Cheers Mark!. Thought that was the party line on the exhaust but wanted to check!.

Interesting how the HKS exhaust is positioned as a performance upgrade though!.Theory vs reality?!!!.

Would be interested to hear from Scooby or others about the other HKS kit plus will have a nose around tomorrow at TDI to see what they say!.

Trypod has the full set up too IIRC.

The super racing suction kit sounds very but suffers from a lot of heat soak.

Having owned the HKS exhaust, I can honestly say that I felt it was a restriction in terms of performance but an absolute delight to listen to.

Besides I would say that wouldn't I?

I approached this the other way round I had the manifold fitted before the the cat back system. I did notice an improvement even with the stock system high in the rev range, but thats just through the butt dyno. NOw the Hi power exhaust is on as well it's a definant improvement over stock, then again i would say that wouldn't i

BTW, TDi are a bunch of idiots. they'll overcharge you for work that's not needed and they heavily overprice their stock.

Std manifold is better than the HKS one imo!

Just lok at how little gains can be made from any ehaust mods- the std stuff is pretty damn good- just stick with the exhaust for a nicer note.

To put it ointo context a circa 7bhp peak gain has cost me over 3k

Hi

I have got the HKS exh, header and racing ind kit i can not fault it, there is def performance gains especially mid range the ind kit makes the car sound superb i took the header and ind kit off two weeks ago and the car was as flat as road kill i would hate to have a standard S2 again.
