Default P0122

Ok, i have managed to get the fault code from my baby and its reading

P0122 - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Circuit Low Input

I have done a search but no definitive answer about fixing the problem has been written.

some background:

As with most of use, i have been driving around slower than usual (and i need new rears), average vtecing certainly no hammering it through the gears.
Got home with no problem and the car was stood for 20 mins before i went out again to move it.
Straight away the CEL light came on and i have just diagnosed it as P0122.
Several days ago the car had a slight 'shudder' @ 4k rpm in 6th which i thought nothing of, it certainly didnt trigger a CEL light, yet a few days later and much lighter driving i get this code.

TBH the spark plugs are getting changed this weekend, and i'll have a good cleanout with some carb cleaner. I will also adjust the throttle cable, and a new MAP sensor is on the way from HTG.

Does anyone else have any advice on steps i should take now that i have cleared the code ?

Hi Armand.

I would wait and see if it returns.

It's not that common for a TPS to die, but wouldn't be the first.

The blip you had at 4k isn't unusual and can just be a hiccup, but could also be related to the TPS. The ECU uses the TPS to help with knowing how much fuel to add / control injector pulse etc.

Let us know if it does.

Thanks Mark,

Just one question though, should the part fail (however unlikely) is the sensor the same across all model years ?

I read that Honda dont sell this without the throttle body too, so likely to be expensive. Leads me to think i might have to try a breakers.

And whilst we're here, what about the injectors ?

Thanks Again

Ben

Ok just this evening i got the same code again P0122.

I have since the first code, cleaned the throttle body thoroughly, replaced the sparkies and checked for vacum leaks.

I would draw the conclusion then that the TPS is going to die on me shortly.

Anyone have an OEM throttle body, or a nice 70mm Spoon one going spare ?
