Default Paintwork Advice

Hi everyone

Well after viewing many not so good examples I have finally put a deposit down on an S today but I am after some advice...

I'll put a link to the car at the bottom but this is my question. I have test driven the car and it seems very nice but unfortunately there are 3 blemishes on the paintwork. 2 marks on the driver side front wing and 1 on the driver side rear panel. These are due to bird muck not being washed off and so the lacquer is now damaged. I was going to walk away from the car as I felt it was priced to high for the work I would have to have done, but after speaking with the seller and explaining my situation he offered to have the work done at the person who does all his spray work.

I have accepted his offer but obviously do not want to get caught out with poor re spray work so am looking for some guidance on what I should look out for. Your advice would be greatly appreciated guys. Also, if anyone lives near Epsom, is around next Saturday and fancies earning them self a pint

Oh, I'm not paying the asking price either.

Thanks

Jason

Send a PM to Tangoman.

If you are commutable to him - he may be able to polish the blemishes out.

Edit - you are in Epsom - so you are commutable to Tangoman

BTW - Come to the Surrey meet on Tue night

If thats ALL you can find wrong with a SIX year old car then I'd say you'd be a bit stupid to walk away....

As said above, if the etching has not gone through the clearcoat then there is a good chance it will correct with a good machine polish.

I would have thought it would be quite easy to tell if the job's been poorly done. Firstly, I believe it's the most difficult colour the get a decent paint blend with, so make sure you look at it in a decent light, and a bad match will stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm sure there will be people posting with a lot more knowledge than me shortly.

As Gas alludes to with talk of the Surrey meet, S owners are ten-a-penny in Surrey. Someone might be able to take a look at it with you.

Thanks for the swift response guys.

Id be very surprised if these could be polished out. The seller has attempted a none machine polish and you can see white polish in the cracks.

The more I think on it I'm wondering if I should call him tomorrow and ask him not to do the work, agree a price without the required work being undertaken and then dropping it off to Tom at TGM. I used to have an Integra Type R so know Tom and his work.

Tangoman is a genius.

If it can be polished out with a rotary orbital polisher - it will be better than a partial respray.

Does Tom do polishing.

If you can get a discount for the work not being done - go for it!

If I were you I'd negotiate an additional appropriate discount then get the work done myself to a standard I was happy with.

I'd expect a seller will most likely get it done as cheaply as possible to move the car and minimse the hit.

I had not even considered a polish if I'm honest as I just didn't think the marks could be polished out so I was thinking I would just hand the car to Tom and have him do what ever was required. Also there is a crack on the lower section of the front bumper and a small amount of paint has come off, not surprising as it has a very low front. If the previous owner hadn't of done it I probably would have at some point.

Hmmm..... Ok I think I have a plan. I will call Tom first thing to get a rough estimate of worst case scenario respray both panels and then try and haggle a good amount of that off the final price. If this works I will get pictures taken and email Tangoman and see what he thinks.

And if this all works out obviously ill have to attend the Surrey meet. I actually live in Gipsy Hill, South London but the seller is in Epsom.

I agree that the seller may get the work done on the cheap so would rather have it done by someone I know.
