OAP are a minority involved in accidents in contrast to 18-35s. OAPs are however, has a higher mortality rate from accidents.

This old boy driven across a park and landed on some poor guy's car, but how often does that happen contrast to numerous skid marks and 'pinball' evidence of damages along motorways perpertrated by a much younger age group ?

I don't like people commenting on how older people should be taken off road just because of this accident. Accidents happen whether you are skilled driver or an OAP.

Just my 2p.

Ps. Sorry about this but i deal with a lot of elderly folks in my practice, and i find certain remarks tad unfair.

I gladly submit myself to flaming .

I don't think all OAPs should simply be taken off the road.
I do think they should be re-tested "frequently" however and, if proven unfit, then taken off the road.

Anyhow, I've seen a number of skidmarks appear on motrorways due to some poor older person attempting, very badly, to join the Mway at 30 or somesuch.
I'm not generalizing, I'm just saying it happens.
And yes, you are right they are probably not as much of a menace as your avg chav.

EDIT:
In fact... After watching programs like "britains worst driver" etc. I'd be in favour of mandatory re-testing every 5 years for EVERYONE.

Poor bloke in his Astra even if he is a barry type

I feel for him on the basis he no doubt invested what time and money he has into his car. I can sympathise if something or someone totals your investment.

As for old peeps, I put them and the boy racers at the top of my attention list if driving near them.

IMHO your judgement & reactions can become impaired over the years and I don't believe everyone over the age of 65 necessarily has the same level of faculities necessary to drive. Granted that is a generalisation but we apply the same principles surely for getting your licence in the first place, buying alcohol etc

I would happily resit my test every 10 years or at 65 say.
