pinky's mod
Has anyone here got Pinky's HU/dash controls mod??
If so how much did you pay and did everything work ok??
Another thing while i'm here.......a few months before i bought the car i bought Kenwood's brand new top-of-the-range in-dash CD unit for my previous car. This has the stealth "mask" feature where the face spins all the way round when the keys are taken out.
My questions is who out there has a Kenwood stealth HU, and does will it fail the stereo door?? I know that these units aren't actually that deep, so they will go right in as the stock unit does. What d'ya reckon?

Hi Steven
I was in a similar-ish position to the one you are now in - I had a high end Kenwood head unit which I intended to put in my S2000. It too had the very nifty steath front panel. I never actually got as far as putting it in the car - I sold it privately and went the well documented Alpine route. Howver my Alpine CDA 7873r has a 'tiltable' front panel - very neat (but not as neat as the Kenwood) - there is absolutely no way it will operate with the stereo flap/door shut - when this is shut, it actually touches the main volume control knob on the Alpine unit. Even if the Kenwood does not project quite as far as the Alpine unit, I do not believe there is any way the 'steath panel' will be able to do its crazy dance with the car stereo flap closed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news).

I've got a Blaupunkt Skyline unit. I decided that I'd rather put up without the remote controls than the crap head unit.
The Skyline has a full face flap which initially fouled the dash cover. I made a couple of brakets to move the unit back a couple of mm's and works fine now. The only problem that I have is that the lower lip of the head "hole" can foul the head units flap. Not much just makes it stick occasionally, nothing a gentle finger can't get moving again.
Take the OEM head unit out for a couple of weeks and see if you can live without the dash controls. I'd be surprised if you even notice them after a while
