Default Point of Vtec?

Hi,

I'm having an arguement with my father in law!! He used to own a MY00 S2000. He says that Honda have changed the Vtec 'kick-in' from around 6,000rpm to below that.

I argue that the MY06 models still have the VTEC 'kick-in' around the 6,000rpm level.

Please help!!!!

Nick

They haven't moved it but simply changed the transition so it is less noticeable.

They moved it on the 2.2 engine IIRC. This might be the confusion. the 2.2 is only available in the USA

I wish they hadn't - I used to love that kick in the back when it happened on my old one!

That 'kick' means a slight loss in power.

Much better for it to be a nice, smooth transition.

VTEC transition is the same for all MYs including the 2.2s.

2.0L vtec is at ~6000rpm
2.2L vtec is slightly earlier at about 5800rpm

although the transition points do vary slightly depending on conditions and throttle angle.

Also it's interesting to note that my VAFCII reports that the the 01 ECU is switching to VTEC at 6150rpm

I actually feel like it begins at 5800 on my 06, with the main hit at 6000.

In my 03 it was everything at 6000.

Not conclusive enough to argue it though
