Default Possible scam...

A few months ago I was at a service station somewhere(I think off the M6) about to get in the car to continue my journey when a woman approached me and said her car had broken down but she wasn't a member of the RAC and that they were going to charge her one hundred and something quid to come out. She explained that she was

Not experienced it but I reckon your gut reaction was the right one. I reckon Service station car parks are a perfect venue for con artists.

The shame is that because of people like that the truly 'in need of help' people don't get help.

Dunno but it IS bollocks - breakdown services will send you an invoice if you don't have cash/credit cards on you and then pursue it via debt collectors etc if you keep not paying.

I had a similar thing only at the weekend. I was filling up at a local Shell, when a woman comes along, giving me a sob story saying she was meant to meet a friend at a local cinema but her friend couldn't make it. She was now stuck in the middle of nowhere with no other money. She wanted money for a bus to her friend's house.

I being very cynical said I would not spare her any cash. She then went around and asked everyone else filling up. I know two of whom gave her money. Yet she still waited around in the station and asked everyone else who drove in

Con or what.

A year or so ago I got stopped by a guy at some services on the M4. He looked very dodgy from the off and then explained that he had run out of petrol and needed to borrow

They hadn't just got back from a watch convention by any chance and were trying to sell you a fancy watch at a special price ?

Funnily enough the reason I mentioned that I thought Service Station car parks were an ideal venue for con artists is that I saw a guy approaching cars trying to sell them a watch.

Didn't approach me and my mate as we were watching him smiling to ourselves so he knew he wasn't going to get anywhere with us.

That's what I suspected, but wasn't sure. I'm now 100% sure I didn't leave someone genuinely in need
