Postcard from Florida
Hi All,
Just a quick note to let you all know I am having a tremendous holiday in SW florida although the weather has been a little patchy - between 5 and 6 yesterday afternoon we had over 7" of rain in conjunction with winds gusting to 145mph.
Actually, we where ordered to leave (we have rented a house on a barrier island. The pool/ground floor are about 5' above sea level and as a 20' tidal surge was predicted the authorities imposed a mandatory evacuation in our area. Now sat in a nice hotel in Miami wondering what is left of our holiday home
). Still, it is just a rental home for us, many others have lost property and worse - estimates of 60 people dead in Punta Gorda a little to the north of where we are staying.
Gazzer - 'On the 8's' - national weather summaries at 8, 18, 28, 38, 48 and 58 min's past the hour (I have watched the Weather Channel an awful lot over the last 48 hours!!!)
Saw 2 S2000's (1 Sebring, one Yellow) in the evacuation queue's on I75 on Thursday evening........does that keep this thread on topic????
)
Take care all
Ian

Hope insurance covers damage to said property.......If dolphins end up in pool with sea surge can recoup some monies advertising "swimming with dolphins", ala sea world!Weather here blue skies for a change done nothing but rain for last week with locallised flooding over most of south east and midlands.
Still would like to be in Miami instead.........

Hi Ian,
You should be about out of it by now, so I hope you can resume your holiday back on the beach. Thanks for answering a long time question I had. (And to think I lived there for 4 years and never worked it out!!!)
You will also be pleased to know, Gaz-Lee Import & Export Inc. confirms the arrival of said delivery!
Happy Holidays!

Hi, Ian
Sylvia and I spend the first three weeks of November each year in SW Florida, perambulating between our timeshares at Longboat Key (Sarasota), Estero Island (Fort Myers), and Treasure Island (St Pete). We purposely chose November because it is (hopefully) out of the hurricane season but the summer warmth has not yet disappeared.
It is always worrying to see the disastrous effects of such climatic events but I have to say that when we are away we are equally worried about such events back home because, living only a few yards from the River Cam, we have had the experience of our residential road being a swiftly flowing branch of the Cam with the water halfway up our garden path.
All down to global warming I suppose. I only hope the damage in Florida is repaired before we set off because the highlight of our visit is the international Sand Sculpting competition at Fort Myers Beach which makes our British sandcastles look like cowpats.
Anyway, to head off the Budgie from relocating this thread to Off-Topic, I must say that I have never, ever, seen an S2000 on the Gulf Coast, except for one for sale in the local Honda dealer at Sarasota. When I had a look at it I was amazed to find that its price was about the same as we would expect to pay in the UK. Normally, cars in the US of A can be bought for $'000s whereas we would be paying
