Default power loss at VTEC

searched as usual - cant find a suitable answer...

my S seems to run absolutely fine - until it gets to about 5500 rpm - then it feels like it is losing power - get to VTEC and it thinks about it for a second then vtec comes on - then off - then on etc. same in every gear. just clocked over 50,000 miles.

checked oil - its fine

any ideas?

really worried!

wiggle the MAP sensor.. i've heard people report this problem before.. its on the right side of the engine as you look from the front of the car. once you get it working tie rap the little bugger on.. it works loose apparently

If the car's under warranty, just take it to the dealer and let them fix it.

i'll give it a go - when it stops raining!

thanks

watch this space!

... the really wierd thing is that this started to happen EXACTLY at 50,000 miles! - maybe i'm being told that my S is due for retirement? - needs a rest?

Have you checked the oil level - it's pressure dependent.

Nick - he said that he has already checked the oil in his first post

I would unplug the map sensor and give it a few sharp taps with the end of a screwdriver.

Mine did the same not long ago, check the following!

MAP Sensor
Spark plugs & leads
Oil
Reset ECU

Had to buy a new MAP sensor in the end! Cured the problem.
