Default Prm

Showing my ignorance, but can somebody please explain to me what PRM is? I'm not sure if it is a make of CAI or if it a product in it's own right. I have read a few threads, but they all assume the reader has technical knowledge.

Other questions are:
Does it improve performance?
What do insurers think of it?
Is the additional noise road legal?
Are there any MOT issues? - mine with be 3 yrs old next year
Where could I buy?
How much?

You should find pretty much everything you want to know by following the links in the original UK group buy thread:

PRM Jetstream Air Intake is the products name see www.prmracing.com

Does it improve performance?
- They don't state any performance gains on their website. As it is not a true COLD air intake (the air is still taken from inside the engine bay and therefore warm at low speeds) low speed performance gains due to cold air would be minimal or non-existent. At higher speeds there might be more in it as there will be plenty of cold air getting into the engine bay - but I've never seen any truly comparative dynos showing any BHP increase..

What do insurers think of it?
- Several people have declared their intake and had no additional premium to pay

Is the additional noise road legal?
- don't know if this is an issue or now, it should be ok as it only gets really loud under 'load', so shouldn't turn any heads about town unless you want it to. I guess the noise level is subjective - unless the police carry monitors with them? I haven't heard of anyone being stopped because of their PRM..

Are there any MOT issues? - mine with be 3 yrs old next year
- sorry no idea on this one, but my guess would be no. It shouldn't increase emissions and noise tests are done at idle/low revs I think??

Where could I buy?
- see website above or old GB link as Ian posted. Or I think they have a place in the marketplace.

How much?
- can't really recall ~

I wouldn't count on that being a guaranteed side effect of fitting a PRM though. I've had quite the opposite experience, but then I guess I did swap an AusS2000 air intake extension, which pulled cooler air from lower down, for the PRM which pulls in warmer air from within the engine bay.

It only tends to be after I've stood for a while in traffic in warm weather though. Certainly not a reason not to buy a PRM, especially when you consider the extra noise which it offers and which more than makes up for any kangarooing.

My dealer was happy to fit mine for me, so there really oughtn't be any warranty issues unless it can be proved unequivocally that a problem which might arise stemmed directly from having replaced the stock airbox with the PRM.

The PRM is louder than airbox off
