Default PRM Help

Afternoon,

I'm gonna take the plunge and fit my prm tonight when i get home from work, so a few questions as i know many people have them on here.

I have searched the forum and got answers to alot but not all.

So my urgent questions and things i need a bit of clarity on before 5:30pm ideally.

1. Attached to the stock air box is a little thing with denso written on it with a couple of tubes and a couple of wires going into it. so when i take the old airbox off what do i do with this bit? (it looks kinda important)

2. All the other little tubes do the use for the bulk of these become obvious when i take of the air box, i seem to read its for extending some things,

3. Anythng i need other than a screwdriver a 10mm socket thing and balls

4. Finally anyone in or around northampton wanna help, watch and/or hear it when i finish at midnight. well hopefully bout 8:00.

And yes, ive never done anything myself to a car apart from top up oil and put in screen wash, so i'm a bit nervous.

Thanks your helps more than appreciated.

1. It stays, but you will need to tie it back somewhere so the extra tubing (which is normally stuck to the side of the airbox) doesn't get caught up in the pulleys

2. Yes they are meant to be for extending some of the joints.. some guys don't use them, but I will take a pic in a bit and post it for you

3. patience in removing the old tubes as they are welded on (not literally) oh and a pair of pliers to open the springy clip things

4. I am in Leamington so would normally have offered to come over, but you chose the weekend I am going to Kent and picking up some bits from a fellow S2kier enroute, so can't delay. Its easy though. I managed it quite easily. Just take it steady.

I hadn't done anything like this before either! Only one tip from me... there is a tube that flows under the air intake pipe on the existing box - it is attached into the S shaped metal thing on that the main tube runs into - it contains coolant, so probably best not to detach it

Pic in a mo or five.

Right... Before I forget - to do the install this way, you also need a hoseclip that will go tight around the thicker tubing you've been supplied with.

Right at the bottom of this pic you can see what the Honda guys did with my Denso thingy when they sorted my gasket recently. I just wrapped the tube behind that big fat grey pipe, but they kindly tied it back for me.

The slightly blurred tube in the middle is attached to the 'S' shaped set of tubes (there are several welded together), it is the one with coolant in it. The others are dry.

The other tubes that need tying back from the 'S' shaped tubes, I tied to the main intake tube with another tie, rather than the cross member in the engine bay.

This is the clearest pic of the tubing itself on the main engine block.
From the right... the first two tubes are optional, one skinny and one big.
The other end (front end) of the block, you can cut a shorter piece of tube (than the original) and connect the main part of the 'S' bend to the block. You will need to replace the two grey skinny tubes with longer versions in the new tubing, sort of in the middle of the pic. This allows you to re-use the 'S' shaped pipe, as the position of the other end doesn't quite line up with the PRM if you try to reuse the original Grey piping..
The other end of the fat 'S' shaped pipe - where it goes into the PRM is where you will need the hoseclip.
Thats about it. The other tubing movements are clear enough from the hand drawn diagram I think.

You will have to adjust the position of the main PRM intake pipe a bit as if you push it up to the engine as far as it will go, the other piping might not line up quite right. Just make sure everything reaches before tightening up.

Once it is all in place, give it a short test drive and check its ok (for peace of mind I found ) then after the next couple of drives make sure its all still tight.

Enjoy !

oh and it should sound like this mp3

Shame, I did mine in the street - but it was dry that day.. My new neighbours, (I moved into their street) are getting used to me now, PRM install, few hours cleaning the car including a touch under the bonnet. I have to sneak MJ in under cover of darkness, they would think I was weird if I did that stuff to my car AND had a girlfriend
