Problems dealing with CTL
I saw in the traders advert the offer on the Invidia 300 exhaust and got in touch with Aaron at CTL asking if he could match the initial offer price but mistakenly did not say which exhaust. He came back with £600 delivered before Xmas. I pointed out that it was at £515 delivered he then replied which exhaust as that was the Greddy Tic dual he had quoted for. Now that exhaust is £579.95 delivered but he quotes me £600.
Then when we establish it is the Invidia he says that £515 plus discount or free cat was only on offer for the first 2 sold and he has sold more than 5 now so fair enough the price is £515.
I then ask to pay by card and he replied don't do credit cards we do BACS/cheque/paypal/postal order. So i said I would pay by paypal as it gives me some sort of security to which he replied fine the price is £535.60 we add 4% for using paypal. I pointed out that paypal charge him that and not me and it is 3.4% plus 20p if I am correct it is less sometimes for trade depending how much they use them.
Anyway after loads of emails I am getting the blueflame one from Amber that take credit cards and Paypal. It worries me that I am offered the 1st exhaust at £600 when the advert is £579.95 and I have to pay 4% extra using paypal and just to make my point here is an extract from CTL's adverts on the traders forum:
"Also please keep in mind when buying from us, there are no hidden charges. The price you see below is the price you'll pay."!!

Hello Kevin ,
Yes there was a problem from the first email.
We have had many interest on all the exhausts we sell however the TiC has proven to be a little more popular so we quoted you on that £600.00 Delivered before Xmas as the offer you have quoted ended and cant keep the deals open usually longer then a month due to how low our prices are. So from the first email we were both a little confussed and i apologise for this however we cant take the full blame if we are not told what your after but again we are sorry for assuming.
We have now taken the 5th order for the Q300 and informed you soon as we relised thats the exhaust you were after that we were well past the 2 stated on the post.
As said to many many members we dont accept cards on special orders for various reasons a ) costs us b ) we have been fooled by stolen cards and try and push other payment, however your more then welcome to pop into the store and use your card here.
We offered paypal as a one off helping hand and do not advertise the fact we accept payment via paypal as we usually dont, guess we got our hand burnt trying to help there however we cant loose another 4% of an already very cheap offer.
You then say you'll come and pay cash if we'll fit it for free, please bare in mind we are a company and even though we would love to be a charity we also need to make money.
Thank you for your interest in the Invidia Q300 and hope the blueflame exhaust is equally as good as it looks to be a very good dual system.
Once again we do apologise for the mis-understanding.
Thanks
Aaron Lee

Thanks Aaron the £600 you quoted initially was for an exhaust you advertise at £579.95 as in your email you quoted me for the Greddy Tic so why were you quoting me £600 as you cannot say you didnt know what exhaust you were quoting for?
I never asked for help in paying you I asked if you took cards you replied no then quoted me what you did take I then chose paypal as it was a method of payment you offered and you added 4% which seems to run against your advertising slogan a little bit
"Also please keep in mind when buying from us, there are no hidden charges. The price you see below is the price you'll pay."
It should be "we advertise one price quote another and have hiidden charges!"

Hello Kevin,
Please have a browse through the traders section and its a helpful function but also displays dates, as already stated we cant hold offers open longer then a month. Again all we have ever done is try and help you along the way but just seems to me you cant actaully please everyone no matter how hard you try.
Its very well known there is a paypal charge and shooting straight to the point i cant see why we have to take a hit on another 4% for trying to help you out ?!? Again we would love to be a charity but bottom line is we are not. Yes we should not of offered the paypal function however we will not offer this again because its not a regular payment for us.
However we do apologise for offering you PayPal ( However maybe you should complain to paypal about there charges, however as they are also not a charity doubt it'll help )
I dont think you would of been happy if we would of give you the exhaust let alone charge you.
There is no reason for us to respond again, im sure the blueflame will be a nice purchase.
Thanks

Am I missing something here? Doesn't sound like anyone has lost out or had bad service.
Paypal was given as an option but due to their charges the price was slightly higher but the extra £20 for the convenience and security of their service was not what you wanted to pay (OP).
The price quoted was based on whatever profit margin they need to make to stay in business. If the cost goes up due to paypal or card charges, the sell price needs to go up too to keep the margin.
Where is the issue?
A good deal has to work both ways for it to be worth doing.
You weren't happy with the price so chose another supplier.

I see no issue either.
I'm reading it that the trader has tried his best to accomodate, and gone beyond their normal trading terms to assist the OP with a "payment protection" means of payment.
The OP is right that using their credit card - gets them extra protection.
If the trader doesn't offer credit card purchases and the benefits of card protection are important to the OP - it's easy to find another trader that does take that payment method.
Storm in a teacup really.
